Advancement

The top 3 finishers will advance directly to the 42nd PGA Assistant Championship, held November 15-18, 2018 at PGA Golf Club – Wanamaker Course in Port St. Lucie, FL. (Derek Berg is exempt and will not count as one of the three spots based on his finish at the National event last summer.)

“We are so fortunate to have such an amazing group of talented Assistant Professionals that we get to compete with. You better bring your A game if you want to move on to Florida for the National Assistant in the Fall! These guys are good! “- Ryan Malby

The Home Course

The Home Course was designed by golf course architect Mike Asmundson of Scottsdale, Arizona and opened on June 29, 2007. It is a walkable layout with panoramic views of Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains, and Mount Rainier present throughout the golf course. The Home Course was selected by the United States Golf Association as the assisting course for the 2010 U.S. Amateur Championship. It is truly a great championship golf course at the home of golf in the Pacific Northwest.

History of the Championship

This year’s Assistant Championship marks the 42nd anniversary as a National event but the PNW Section has been conducting the event since Fred Pelzer donated the trophy in 1965.The National Championship tradition began in 1976 to recognize the role of the PGA Assistant Professional and how important he or she may be in the success of a golf facility as well as our entire Association. They represent more than 10,000 men and women assistant professionals and registered apprentices nationwide.

Last year, Derek Berg of Sahalee CC shot 69-65‒134 to win by five strokes against Justin Wiles of Reames G&CC. Berg, Wiles and Tim Feenstra qualified for the 41st National Car Rental PGA Assistant Championship, where Berg took second place.
