PROfile: Trevor Hiebing

This month we profile Trevor Hiebing, a PGA Coach and head golf professional at Sah-Hah-Lee Golf Course in Clackamas, OR. Trevor Hiebing has almost two decades of experience in the golf industry, including playing professionally for 10 years. Currently, he is a PGA Associate, TPI Level 3 certified golf instructor, US Kids certified coach, K-Motion certified, and a Callaway club fitter and product specialist. Trevor has dedicated his life to golf, and his journey has been nothing short of inspiring.

Trevor’s golf journey began nearly two decades ago but was inspired by a middle school physical education teacher who introduced him to the sport. Those early mornings hitting golf balls on the football field set him on a lifelong path of golfing excellence.

Trevor’s formative years were marked by his participation in the First Tee Program in San Diego. This program not only taught him golfing skills but also instilled values of respect, integrity, and sportsmanship that continue to guide his approach to golf education.

Trevor then embarked on an eight-year professional golf career, competing on mini tours across the United States. He also gained invaluable experience as a caddy at the esteemed Bandon Dunes Golf Resort, further expanding his knowledge of the game.

Trevor’s next significant step in the golfing world was becoming an instructor at Sah-hah-lee Golf Course. This role allowed him to share his vast golfing expertise with budding enthusiasts. His commitment to golf education led him to achieve Level 3 Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) certification, solidifying his status as a golf instruction expert.

When students seek Trevor’s guidance, they can anticipate a personalized and thorough approach to enhancing their golfing skills. Trevor places great emphasis on open communication, initiating each lesson with a dialogue about the student’s objectives. He believes the learning process should be a collaboration between instructor and student, with both parties fully invested in the journey towards improvement.

During the initial assessment, Trevor evaluates the student’s physical capabilities and limitations, along with their current swing. Lessons may cover swing mechanics, short game, course management, or mental preparedness, depending on assessments and the student’s goals. At the end of each session, students receive a detailed summary, including a copy of their physical assessment, swing analysis, and personalized drills and practice strategies tailored to their unique needs and objectives.

“I believe it is my responsibility to help students understand their physical capabilities and mental tendencies and options for working around or on any limitations,” said Trevor.

Trevor’s journey is a testament to the profound impact that one teacher or a program like The First Tee can have in igniting a lifelong passion for golf. His unwavering dedication to the sport and his tireless commitment to helping others unlock their potential serve as a true inspiration to all. We look forward to witnessing the exciting chapters that lie ahead in Trevor’s remarkable golfing journey!
