Austin Hurt Wins PNW PGA Professional Championship

Austin Hurt of Wing Point G&CC won the PNW PGA Professional Championship presented by Club Car, Corebridge Financial and Rolex on September 21st at Tumble Creek Club by one stroke over Brandon Drake of CDA National Reserve.

In addition to Hurt and Drake, Derek Berg of PNW Golf Academy, Corey Prugh of Community Colleges of Spokane, Scott Erdmann of Oswego Lake CC, Liam Kendregan of Sand Point CC and Jeff Coston of Semiahmoo G&CC all earned spots to advance to the 2024 PGA Professional Championship presented by Club Car, Corebridge Financial and Rolex next spring.  In addition to the top 7, Colin Inglis of Shadow Hills CC, Russell Grove of North Idaho College and Chip Sullivan already have spots in the national championship based on past performance.

Additionally, the low 20 scores at the 2024 PGA Professional Championship presented by Club Car, Corebridge Financial and Rolex will earn a place in the 106th PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club, Louisville, KY, May 13-19, 2024.

Past Champions

Last year, Jeff Coston of Semiahmoo G&CC won his eighth Section Championship title at the PNW PGA Professional Championship with a three-day total of 201, 12 under, having also won the title in 2010, 2009, 2003, 2002, 2000, 1999, 1998, and 1997.  Coston returns to the field this year to try his hand at another win along with 2021 Champion Colin Inglis of Shadow Hills CC, and three-time champion Corey Prugh of Community Colleges of Spokane (2020, 2019, 2016). They will be joined by an amazing field of past champions to include Russell Grove of North Idaho College (2018, 2017),  Tim Feenstra of Broadmoor Golf Club (2015, 2013, 2011), Brian Thornton of Meridian Valley CC (2014, 2007), Ryan Benzel of Sahalee CC (2012), Ryan Malby of Kalispell, MT (2006), Tom Sovay of The Golf Club at Redmond Ridge (2004), Mike Gove of Inglewood Golf Club (1992), Mark Keating of Meriwether National Golf Course (1991), and Rob Gibbons of Arrowhead GC (1989).

History of the Championship

The earliest recorded scores of the Section Championship date back to 1936. In 2000, the Section Championship was combined with the CPC event and is now the Pacific Northwest PGA Professional Championship (PPC). This event is open to PNW PGA Members and Life Members only (Life Members are not eligible to advance) with all chapters of the Pacific Northwest represented. The field is limited to PGA members who are eligibly employed as golf professionals and in certain pre-established membership classifications.
