Stewart and Tibbits Win Pacific Golf & Turf PNW Pro-Amateur Championship

PGA Professional Bruce Stewart of Stone Creek and amateur Spencer Tibbits of Royal Oaks CC won the Pacific Golf & Turf Pro-Amateur Championship at Bandon Dunes Resort. They combined for rounds of 66-63–129.

On October 6, players of the Pacific Golf & Turf PNW Pro-Amateur Championship began their first round of the two-round tournament at Sheep Ranch Golf Course at the Bandon Dunes Resort. With round two being played at the original Bandon Dunes Course, the next 48 hours was sure to be filled with beautiful views and spectacular golf.

“It feels awesome to win with Spencer, who I’ve coached since he was 10 years of age,” said Bruce Stewart of the win. “Teaching youth has always been a passion and joy of mine. So winning the Pacific Golf and Turf Pro-Am Championship with a student of mine fills me with much joy.”

This wasn’t the first time Mr. Stewart has found the winners circle at this event. His first win was in 1979, where he won as an amateur at Fircrest Golf Club.

“At 68 years of age, it feels AWESOME!” Bruce said when asked how this win compares to his victory over 43 years ago.

When asked how their games fit the Bandon Courses, Spencer Tibbits responded, “I’ve always had a lot of creativity which obviously helps a lot at a place like Bandon Dunes.”

“I’m a great wind player. I absolutely love the firm condition and ball bounce. The Ocean view was spectacular. Links golf is my favorite,” added Bruce.
