Memory: 2002 Senior Matches – Chris Maletis

My  most memorable recollection was in 2002.  I was the senior playing team captain and was responsible for determining one half of the matchups.  The pros had a strong team with Don Bies and Fred Haney as the two of the three top players on that team. In the morning Foursome matches I put myself and … Read more

Memory: 2008 Matches – Tom Brandes

I will say the players dinner is the best. Anytime Jerry Mowlds was at those dinners speaking was very memorable for all the right reasons. One of the funniest memories was trying to give Scotty Krieger a putt at Aldarra and he wouldn’t accept my concession. Quote: “Tommy, you don’t want to give me these.”

Memories – Senior Matches – Bill Tindall, PGA

Toughest match: 1993 Bellingham G&CC Individual match against Jerry Cundari, an Oregon Duck who was a fierce competitor. I won 1 up. Most fun: 1998 Portland GC Individual match against Ken Forster (the toughest of all). Just before teeing off I noticed another player warming up, putting left hand low. It looked so good I … Read more

Memory: 1975 Matches – Bill Tindall, PGA

I was fortunate to play in twenty matches (ten regular and ten senior). Below are some of my best memories of the 1975 Matches at Walla Walla. Host Pro Jim Russell played for a sick Tom Liljeholm and we defeated Bill Sander (national Amateur champion) and Jeff Sanders. A real thrill. Also, I defeated Peter … Read more

Memory: 2003 Matches – Tom Sovay, PGA

I may have set a Hudson Cup record that may never be broken.  I was undefeated in my first 20 matches. Being named the Lamberger award winner, it took me three minutes to stop crying to get up and accept at Oakbrook. Ron Hagen was our Captain which made it a supreme honor to win the … Read more

Memory: 1991 Matches – Mark Keating, PGA

First off, as a teenager, I was fortunate enough to have spent time and worked with both Craig Griswold and Harvey Hixson who both had multiple match photos on their office walls.  I was both impressed and fascinated at the same time which led me to learn more.  Later, I caddied in the Matches at … Read more

Memory: 1978 Matches – Fred Haney, PGA

My most memorable moment in the Hudson Cup was not in a win, but in a loss. In 1978, I qualified as a professional and played Chuck Hunter in the singles match. Chuck was a fine player and an even better person. I had Chuck 3 down with 4 holes to play. On the 15th … Read more

Memory: 1969 Matches – Fred Haney, PGA

When I first qualified for the Hudson Cup, in 1969, I was a 20-year-old amateur who knew very little about the history of the matches.  I left Manito CC realizing how special it was to play in the Hudson Cup and made it one of my goals every following year.  Whether I qualified as an … Read more

Memory: 1984 Matches – Kevin Bishop, PGA

Reflecting back, I have two favorite Hudson Cup memories. One is of my first Hudson Cup in 1984 and all the great professionals that I was privileged to play with on that team. I went undefeated that year and on that team was the great Rick Acton, George Lanning, Ken Still, Pat Fitzsimmons, a young … Read more
