Colin Inglis Wins Second Washington Open Title

By Cameron McCauley, PNW PGA Tournament Intern

Meridian Valley Country Club hosted the Muckleshoot Casino Washington Open Invitational on August 15-17, 2022. With a strong field of 168 competitors including PGA Professionals and amateurs, only one person could come out on top of the leaderboard. In the end, Colin Inglis finished with 70-65-68-203, 13-under to win the 2022 Washington Open.

Colin Inglis did a fantastic job outlasting some other strong players in the Section such as PGA Professional Blake Synder of Pacific Northwest Academy, amateur Jordan Lee of Meridian Valley, PGA Professional Matt Epstein of Everett Golf and Country Club, and PGA Professional Shane Prante from The Home Course.

“I played away from the pin a lot and took the big miss out of play,” Inglis responded when asked what steps he took to continue to score. “I knew the par 5’s were all birdie holes and tried to make birdies on those holes and anything else was a bonus. I did a good job of avoiding bogeys and when I did hit a bad shot, I scrambled and chipped really well.”

Comparing this event to 2021, where he finished tied for fifth, he commented, “Last year I was in a similar position and handled the situation poorly, so it was nice to improve on my mental game and emotion.”

Furthermore, with this being his second win of the Washington Open, he stated, “It feels incredible. You really don’t win much in golf so anytime you can get a win it is a special feeling, especially when it is a section major at a great course like Meridian Valley.”

Before the championship, a weekend pro-am supporting Folds of Honor was held. There were 34 sponsored teams, each with four amateurs led by one PGA Professional. This pro-am entailed a scramble format for day one with a shamble format on day two. Winning this year’s Muckleshoot Casino Washington Open Pro-Am was The Residential Electric Company sponsor team, led by PGA Professional Russell Grove of North Idaho College with amateurs Karl Browne, Andrea Browne, Lisa Ziccarelli, and Mike Ziccarelli. This event raised over $98,000 to help provide scholarships for the children and spouses of those killed or disabled in service to the United States Military as well as support the American Lake Veterans Golf Course.

The Section would like to thank Meridian Valley CC, Muckleshoot Casino and the players for making this event so special. Special thanks to General Manager Gordy Walker, PGA Head Professional Adam Englehorn, Superintendent Craig Benson and all the staff for the use of their course. We would also like to thank our presenting sponsors, Donovan Brothers, Hargis, Annasea and Meiomi Wines, as well as the continued support of Tito’s Handmade Vodka, Oak Harbor Freight Lines, Hemplers/Isernio’s/Fletchers, Adidas and TaylorMade.
