Oswego Lake comes from behind to win Pro-Assistant Championship

Portland, OR – Columbia Edgewater – 6,699 Yards, Par 71

PGA Professional Rob Gibbons and Bruce Stewart of Arrowhead GC enjoyed a slim one stroke lead after the first round of the Pro-Assistant Championship after firing 67, four under par. Hot on their heals were four teams from Inglewood GC (Mike Gove-Eric Berry), Grants Pass GC (Matt Reams-Jeff Ott), Glendale CC (Kenney Boyd-Chris Lisk) and Tacoma C&GC (Rich Friend-Mitch Runge).

The Oswego Lake CC team of PGA Professionals Brent Murray and Scott Erdmann broke out of an eight-way tie for sixth coming from two shots back to post 9 under par 133 thanks to a final round 64 that included 7 birdies and an eagle. Four teams were tied for second, two shots back at 135 including Dan Hill and Tim Feenstra of Broadmoor GC who posted 8 birdies on their way to a 64 as well.

For the victory Murray and Erdmann earn $2,800 out of the $22,100 purse. This was Brent’s third Pro-Assistant title earning victories in 2001 and 2002 with Doug DuChateau. Three other teams have won this title twice…..can you name them?

Our thanks to Sally Schmitz of Bushnell and Bryan Dickson of Cutter & Buck for their support. A special thanks to host professional Bryan Tunstill and his staff and especially to superintendent Gordon Kiyokawa and his crew for a fantastic golf course. The weather held off and we enjoyed a great track.

In addition to the championship, we held the Section Spring Meeting and Spring Board Meeting during the week. The officers led Golf 2.0 breakout sessions and Monte Koch the new PGA Player Development Regional Manager was introduced during the proceedings.
