Grove Defends Section Title at Meadow Springs

By Molly Cooper, PGA - Director of Tournament and Member Programs

PGA Professional Russell Grove of North Idaho College became a repeat champion at the Pacific Northwest PGA Professional Championship presented by Club Car and OMEGA in a one-stroke playoff against three-time past champion Tim Feenstra of Broadmoor GC. Grove’s win earned him the $9,000 first place check and also helped cement Player of the Year honors (also for the second straight year).

“It feels great to be a repeat winner of the PNW PGA Championship. Golf is hard and winning is even harder, so to be able to win the same event back to back years feels great,” said Grove.

Our Section Professionals played for a $80,000 purse with half the field getting paid. The PNW PGA Professional Championship presented by Club Car and OMEGA also served as a qualifier. In addition to Grove and Feenstra, Scott Erdmann of Oswego Lake CC, Jeff Coston of Semiahmoo G&CC, Ryan Malby of Iron Horse GC, Jason Aichele of Meadow Springs CC and Brian Nosler of Loose Cannon Golf Studio all earned honors to advance to the 2019 PGA Professional Championship presented by Club Car and OMEGA, at Belfair on Bluffton, South Carolina on April 28-May 1, 2019.

Additionally, the low 20 scores at the 2019 PGA Professional Championship presented by Club Car and OMEGA will earn a place in the 101st PGA Championship at Bethpage Black in Farmingdale, New York, May 13-19, 2019.

"I made sure to have a plan of attack going in to certain pin locations and certain holes," Grove described his strategy going into the game. "The course for me was a position course where I could only hit a couple drivers and with the greens the way they were, I knew I needed to be precise with my iron shots and miss in the right spots.”

He couldn't plan for getting a second chance in the intense competition, and going into the playoff was complete relief.

“I thought I lost the event after hitting my tee shot on 18 O.B. and was completely devastated walking off the 18th green. So to find out that I was in a playoff and had a chance at redemption, I was just super thankful and had nothing to lose.”
