Labor Day weekend is just a few days away and I would like to extend my personal thanks to all of you who are participating in Patriot Golf Day. I’m so proud to be part of an association that recognizes the sacrifice of our service members. If you have not signed up for Patriot Golf Day, it’s not too late, just do something your own way and send the proceeds to the Folds of Honor. Everything helps. Call me, I’ll walk you through the process.
Our election for Section Secretary is entering the final stage. Please read Dan’s and Sean’s final articles in this issue. Both of these men will speak at your Chapter Meeting, and you’ll have a chance to vote at that meeting or wait until the Section Meeting. Governance of YOUR association is important. Please engage these candidates in conversation or ask questions at your Chapter Meeting.
We’ve finalized the Education Program in Tacoma at the Merchandise Show. Monte Koch leads off with “Become the Chief Engagement Officer at Your Facility” on Monday October 24. The theme is engagement focused on customer (or member) activation, customer retention and customer acquisition. We close the show with a teaching workshop on Wednesday, October 26. This year, four of our top teachers will present a panel discussion to help you be a better and more effective teacher. Jason Aichele, Kathy Gildersleeve-Jensen, Jason Owens and Tom Sovay highlight our panel.

The 2017 Tournament Schedule is coming together nicely. The dates are firm, we just have a few sites to finalize. We are lucky to have Meridian Valley continuing as the host of the WA Open, Juniper GC will host the OR Open, Wine Valley will continue to host the NW Open and the PGA Professional Championship will return to the very popular Circling Raven. Not a bad line up!

As you look at 2017, why not kick it off with the Holcomb-In-One Las Vegas Pro-Am? Scheduled for March 12-17, we’ll play Las Vegas Country Club, Chimera GC and finish with golf and dinner with our friends at Anthem CC. This is perhaps our strongest line up in years, why not join us?

This fall entries are still open for YOUR Section Championship. The Pacific Northwest PGA Professional Championship will be contested at Astoria G&CC. If you have not played Astoria, it is one of the true gems of the great Northwest. Three rounds, no cut, just your fellow professionals. Your entry fee does not stay with National. The Section receives funds, totaling more than the entry fees, back from National, based on the share of sponsor money and entry numbers.

The Special Awards process is about to kick off. Please participate in this important program by nominating someone – especially the PGA Professional doing great work whom no one seems to know about. If YOU are nominated for a Special Award, please complete your bio and be engaged in the process. We want to recognize the great things you are doing at your facility.
