Don’s son, Michael Bails, writes:
It’s with great sadness that I announce the passing of my father, Donald Bails. He was 89 years old. He transitioned to hospice care at home and soon afterward as an inpatient. I was his primary caregiver at home which, although challenging, was a blessing too. I was fortunate enough to have shared my home with him these past seven years since mom’s passing in 2011, but his care needs required more professional help these past couple of weeks. Dad was a lifetime member of the PGA and was considered one of the best golf instructors throughout the Pacific Northwest. Even upon “retiring” he continued to mentor, give private lessons as well as officiate with the Nike Tour back in the 90’s. He was a popular golf fixture in Spokane and the Palouse, and was known to share his knowledge of the game with everyone. He moved to Seattle from Spokane to be with me in 2015 due to some health limitations and shared my condo space in Belltown. He wasn’t much fond of city living and so I’m grateful that I was able to promise him that I’d get him down to the desert once I retired, even though it was only for a short period of time. I wish he’d had more of an opportunity to experience the golf community down here in Las Vegas. He so enjoyed the dry climate and Summerlin area. Much love and thanks to my chosen family and friends for all the support from afar as well as to my Facebook friends for your kind words and prayers during this time. Also, a big thank you to Nathan Adelson Hospice for helping me through these final weeks. RIP dad, for I know you are now reunited with mom again. I love you!
