PROfile: Amy Wilson

This month we interview Amy Wilson, who was nominated to be featured in ForeWord Press because of her efforts in Player Development for kids and adults.

Facility: The Dalles CC

Hometown: Kelso, WA

Elected into membership: 2008

Tell us a little bit about your career. Who or what inspired you to be a PGA Professional?

My inspiration came from a combination of the support I always had from my mom and dad and the professionals I grew up with: Joe McLaughlin (Mint Valley GC) and Fred Bader (Three Rivers GC).  My career path took a detour through the maintenance side of golf but led me back to the golf shop. Sara Griffin, John Kawasoe and Harold Bluestein played a huge part in motivating me through the process of becoming a PGA Professional and they continue to be invaluable resources for me as I travel on this crazy road!

Favorite golfer? Nancy Lopez

Favorite sports team, pro or college? Seattle Seahawks and UW Huskies!

Can you tell us about your Player Development programs?

The programs I have for juniors include a summer camp for the younger kids, match play league for the high schoolers and returning college players in the summer and a workshop throughout the winter for kids planning to be on the high school team. The adult programs, aside from individual lessons, consist of free, 30-minute group clinics on specific aspects of the game; bunker and uneven lies, approach shots inside 50-100 yards, fairway and tree shots, chipping/pitching and putting. These quick, free clinics always lead to individual lessons and the players enjoying the game that much more.

Anything else you’d like the share with PNW Section PGA Members?

We are incredibly blessed to be a part of the greatest Section in the PGA. There are so many Professionals here that we can learn from to grow as Professionals and grow the game!

Thank you, Amy Wilson!
