PROfile: Billy Bomar

Facility: Prairie Falls GC

Hometown:  Grew up in Mesa, AZ, spent 25 years as a golf professional in Anchorage, AK and is currently owner/operator at Prairie Falls Golf Club in Post Falls, ID.

PGA Professional Since:  “I am currently a 33-year apprentice, which I am pretty sure is a record that no one will or wants to ever break. I am still waiting for Jeff Ellison to give me my quarter century award,” jokes Bomar.

Bomar started golfing at age 5, thanks to his grandmother who was an avid golfer and club champion. He recalls great memories of her, “She was a great player and I still have the scorecard from when I finally beat her when I was 13. Pretty sure she missed a few putts the last couple holes.”

He also cites his college golf coach, PGA Member Bruce McNee, as an inspiration.

“He really inspired me to love the game and is pretty much responsible for the golfer and person I am today.”

Bomar’s teams have won the Holcomb-In-One Las Vegas Pro-Am twice, just recently this year and also in 2015. When asked what he liked best about this event, he responded, “One word….VEGAS. Plus I get to spend time with four close Alaskan buddies who come down and play with me. And as always, Grant puts on a great show!”

As for Section wins, Bomar also won the Senior Oregon Open Invitational in 2015.

“I love going down to Wildhorse [Resort & Casino] and playing the Oregon Senior Open. I would love to add another title in Oregon but with all the great senior players competing I will have to be really on my game. My goal is to have my class A by late summer and be able to finally compete in both the Senior and regular PNWPGA section championships and finish high enough to advance to the National Events.”

When asked what he feels is his greatest accomplishment in his golf career, Bomar said, “I  have been very fortunate to make a living both playing and working in the golf business the past 35 years. But the greatest accomplishment in my career was/is being able to see my 3 kids – Brittany, Taylor, and Chase – grow up playing and learning to love the game of golf.  Something they can do for a lifetime.”

Thank you, Billy Bomar! We are excited for your Class A!
