It has been a long season, but now, if you’re reading this, the “dog days” of August are over and things are starting to slow down a bit. After your take a few deep breaths, let me encourage you to start thinking about your professional development this coming off-season. Ask yourself, “Who is the PGA professional I want to be by next Spring?” If you want to be in a better situation (with an opportunity to increase your income, improve your job stability and have more fulfillment) you have to begin now with the end result in mind.

Now apply that to us as golf professionals and ask yourselves…
- What is the most valuable skill or program that I can “own” (master, make real for myself) by next Spring? (Note: most valuable is about income and job stability, if you ask me.)
- How does that skill, discipline or professional development become valuable to my facility’s bottom line?
- If I can learn, gain or build that skill, how will I share my reason for “getting it” so that it gives me and my employer the best ROI on my investment?
- What has been holding me back from learning or gaining this particular skill or discipline? (Will I not let that obstacle impede me?)
