~History of the Senior Oregon Open Invitational~

Since its induction in 1996, the Senior Oregon Open has grown to be the premier senior golf tournament in the Northwest.  This event draws the best players ages 50 and over from all over the Pacific Northwest Section. You must sign up as a team, one PNW PGA Professional and three amateurs.

Last year, PGA Professional Jeff Coston of Semiahmoo G&CC won his third Senior Oregon Open Invitational title by one stroke over PGA Professional Rob Gibbons of Arrowhead GC.  Coston previously won this event back in 2007 and 2009 while Gibbons won back in 2008.

Coston birdied the final hole to pull one stroke ahead of Gibbons for the championship, trophy and $5,000 first place check.

Low amateur honors went to Denny Taylor of Arrowhead GC who finished in a tie for fifth place.

PGA Professional Rick Adell of Bellevue, WA and Jerry Mowlds of Pumpkin Ridge GC took the low Super Senior Division (60 years of age or more) for 36 holes.

Winning the 36-hole team competition was the team of PGA Professional Jerry Mowlds of Pumpkin Ridge GC and his amateurs Phil Mitchell, Pete Guay, and Jim Griffin.  They won by two strokes in the one net, one gross team competition over the team with PGA Professional Scott Williams of Glendale CC and his amateurs Ted Mulcahey, Jeff Smith and Jay Phillips.

~History of Wildhorse Resort and Casino~

The Senior Oregon Open has returned to Wildhorse Resort & Casino inPendleton,ORfor this year’s event. With the praise and popularity that the resort received in past years, the Section was eager to reschedule the same venue.  Only 3.5 hours from Portland, and just south of the northern border of  Washington, Wildhorse’s location allows for players from Eastern Washington, Idaho, and Montana a great opportunity to  compete with their brethren from west of the mountains.

Wildhorse Resort & Casino just went through a major renovation, including adding a ten story tower hotel (with the old courtyard hotel still open).  There are over 300 hotel rooms available in the two hotels plus a business center, fitness center, pool, spa, new coffee shop/deli and restaraunts.  They also expanded their 24-hour gaming floor by over 24,000 square feet and a five screen cineplex with two 3D screens.  The resort and casino is owned and operated by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation.

Wildhorse championship golf course was designed by John Steidel and is nestled at the base of mountains and wide open terrain. The Wildhorse Golf Course is modeled after a traditional Scottish links-style course with plenty of bunkers and tall grass lurking to make you work a little harder than usual.  Each hole is surrounded by spectacular, unobstructed vistas with gentle rolling hills and fairway mounds reflecting the foothills of the Blue Mountains.

The PNW PGA is excited to return to Wildhorse Resort for our tenth straight year.  We hope to see you there!
