The PNW National Car Rental PGA Assistant Championship presented by COBRA PUMA GOLF finished yesterday at Fairwood Golf & Country Club in Renton, WA.  There were 43 PNW PGA Apprentices or Assistants all vying for the title of PNW PGA Assistant Champion. The PNW PGA Assistant Championship is a 36 hole individual competition, held all on one day.

Brad Faller of the Reserve Vineyards GC  ended up on top after firing rounds of 71-68-139 to win by five strokes over Mike Roters of Gateway Golf, Russell Grove of Avondale GC, Brian Nosler of Vanco Driving Range, Colin Inglis of Springfield CC and Tim Feenstra of Broadmoor GC.

In addition to Brad Faller, both Mike Roters and Tim Feenstra earned spots to the 2012 National Car Rental PGA Assistant National Championship presented by COBRA PUMA GOLF at the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida – November 1-4, 2012 after a four hole playoff.

This year’s Assistant Championship marks the 36th Anniversary as a National event but the PNW Section has been conducting the event since Fred Pelzer donated the trophy in 1965. The National Championship tradition began in 1976 to recognize the role of the PGA Assistant Professional and how important he or she may be in the success of a golf facility as well as our entire Association. They represent more than 10,000 men and women assistant professionals and registered apprentices nationwide.

Fairwood G&CC was founded in 1967 by George E. Bell. The course was originally designed by golf course architect, William G. Teufel, however newer designs by late architect John Harbottle III have been submitted and incorporated. Fairwood G&CC has had the honor of hosting a number of competitive tournaments over the years, including the Washington State Open. Despite the lack of length, Fairwood G&CC still provides a tough but fair challenge, due to its narrow fairways and firm and fast greens.
