Scott Erdmann represents at PGA Cup

pga cup logoScott Erdmann of Oswego Lake CC is representing the Section and the United States starting Friday, September 16th at the 25th PGA Cup Matches at CordeValle in San Martin, California.  CordeValle is a challenging 7,252-yard, par-72 layout designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. which opened in 1999.

The PGA Cup originated in 1973 as an outgrowth of the PGA Professional National Championship. Structured after the Ryder Cup, the competition features team competition between the top PGA club professionals from both sides of the Atlantic.

Erdmann is one of six PNW PGA Professionals that has earned a spot at the PGA Cup from the Pacific Northwest PGA Section.  Scott earned a spot into the PGA Cup Matches after his fantastic finish (T-2nd) at the PGA Professional National Championship.  Ryan Benzel (2007 and 2009), Rick Acton (1986 and 1994), Doug Campbell (1980), George Lanning (1977) and Bob Duden (1977) have all represented us in past matches as well.

Jim Remy, PGA of America Honorary President is the 2011 Captain of the USA PGA Team, which was determined Aug. 15, at the 93rd PGA Championship in Atlanta Athletic Club.  The team consists of reigning PGA Professional National Champion David Hutsell of Baltimore, Md.; co-national runners-up Faber Jamerson of Appomattox, Va., and Scott Erdmann of Tigard, Ore., Danny Balin of Greenwich, Conn.; Rob McClellan of Butler, Pa.; Brad Lardon of College Station, Texas, Marty Jertson of Phoenix, Ariz, plus veterans Mark Sheftic of Blue Bell, Pa.; Sonny Skinner of Sylvester, Ga., and Mike Small of Champaign, Il.

Russell Weir is the Great Britain and Ireland Captain.  The Great Britian and Ireland team consists of: Stuart Little of Gloucester, England; Gary Brown of North Yorkshire, England; Robert Giles of County Down, Ireland; Christopher Gill of Devon, England; John Kennedy of Oxford, England; John Wells of Beverley, England; Simon Edwards of Windermere, England; Ireland’s David Mortimer of County Galway, a two-time Irish PGA Champion; David Shacklady of Lancashire, England, who helped his country win the PGAs of Europe International crown last year; and John Wells of East Riding of Yorkshire, England, who survived an eight-hole playoff at The Belfry last June to secure the final berth on this year’s team.
