Coston Fires Final Round 65
Captures 4th Straight Title

Jeff Coston of Semiahmoo G&CC is
Presented the Winner's Check by Cedars at Dungeness General Manager
Bill Shea.
Jeff Coston continued his string of
winning all of the Senior Washington Open championships since he
turned 50 with a come from behind victory over amateurs Chris
Maletis of Langdon Farms GC and Bob Burton of Harbour Pointe GC.
Coston's rounds of 71, 68 & 65 gave him a 12-under par total of 204,
two strokes better that Maletis and Burton. After opening with
a 5 under par 67, first round leader amateur Tom Lewis of Riverbend
GC played steady golf but could not keep pace and ended up in 6th
place behind professionals Mike Gove of Inglewood GC and Jeff Marsh
of Orchard Hills GC who came in at 207. Maletis was the second
round leader after opening with two 68's but he could not match
Coston's birdie, eagle, birdie, birdie string on holes 13-16 and his
final 9 total of five under par 30. Burton, Gove and Marsh all
had fine closing rounds of 4-under par 68 but it wasn't enough to
match the defending champ's last round heroics.
The Stone Creek GC team of professional
Ted Westling and amateurs Wayne Logemann, T.K. Stephens and Jim
Olson won the team event at 377, just a stroke ahead of Marsh and
teammates Scott MacPherson, Charles Ard and Mick Anderson.
The tournament was played under sunny
Sequim skies on the perfectly manicured Cedars at Dungeness GC.
Thanks go out to PGA professional Bill Shea and his staff for
hosting the event for the third straight year, to 7 Cedars Resort
and General Manager Jerry Allen for their Title Sponsorship and to
Aeromech, Inc and Tony Wiederkehr for their presenting Gold
sponsorship.
