Coston wins Senior PGA Championship

Jeff Coston of Semiahmoo G&CC won the Senior PGA Championship by three strokes over Chris Mitchell of Portland GC and Rob Gibbons of Arrowhead GC. Coston fired a second round score of 68 for a two day total of 140 and the title of Senior PGA Champion for the fifth straight year.

Winning the senior division (played from a different set of tees) was Hall of Famer Ron Hagen of The Home Course. He won after firing rounds of 74-71-145 by five strokes over Jeff Jackson of Bend, OR. Bob Sproule of The Dalles CC won the net division with net scores of 72-66-138 by six strokes over Don Otto of Sah-hah-lee GC and Henry Childs.

Ron Hagen also captured the Hugh Starkweather award which goes to the low player for both rounds that is 60 years and older.

Henry Childs also won a three night stay with golf at Mauna Lani Resort in beautiful Mauna Lani, Hawaii complimentary of Tom Sursley with his spectacular shot on the par 3 17th hole for a KP.

Participants entering through National also qualified for the 2010 Senior PGA Professional National Championship at Toscana Country Club in Indian Wells, California and Rancho La Quinta Country Club in La Quinta, California – October 7-10, 2010. Jeff Coston already had a spot through prior play at the Senior Professional National Championship. The nine new qualifiers were Chris Mitchell, Rob Gibbons, Steve Bowen, Tom Carey, Scott Krieger, Mark Gardner, Brent Murray, Gordon Tolbert and Steve Prugh. Good luck in Florida this October!
