Northwest Open/2010

PGA Professional Brian Thornton of Meridian Valley CC won the 106th Northwest Open Invitational after firing a final round score of 66, 6 under par for a three day total of 204, 12 under par. He won by one stroke over professional Brandon Kearney of Bend G&CC and amateur Michael Haack of Meridian Valley CC. Haack won low amateur honors.

This is Thornton’s third major. He has previously won the 2007 PGA Professional Championship and 2009 Washington Open Invitational.

Day one had professional Jason Aichele of Meadow Springs CC lead the Northwest Open Invitational after firing a first round score of 66, six under par. He lead by two strokes over PGA professional Rob Gibbons of Arrowhead GC, professional Brandon Kearney of Bend G&CC, amateur Dan Whitaker of Ellensburg G&CC and amateur Michael Haack of Meridian Valley CC who all fired a 68.

Day two had professional Brandon Kearney and amateur Dan Whitaker take the lead. They stood at 10 under par after the first two rounds. They remained two strokes ahead of amateur Michael Haack and three ahead of PGA Professional Jeff Bender of Golf Universe and Rob Gibbons.

Day three had Brian Thornton coming from behind the leaders. He posted an early 66 and waited until the last couple groups came in before he realized that he had just become the 2010 Northwest Open Champion.

David Bobillot aced the 11th hole Tuesday. It was good for a $400 skin but David gave up a piece of the $10,000 by not having a Sterling Savings Bank account. Do you have one?
