Neil Christian began in golf as a caddie at Tacoma Country & Golf Club and later held professional positions at Tacoma’s Meadow Park GC, Yakima CC, and Spokane’s Riverside GC (later renamed Downriver). He was one of the finest players in his early years. His name can be found three times each on the list of past champions of the Northwest Open (1924, 1929, 1932) and the Washington State Open (1925, 1927, 1932). In addition to his three Northwest Open victories, he finished runner-up on two occasions as a result of a playoff. He also made the cut in one U.S. Open. Christian became the head professional at Waverley Country Club in 1927, a position he held until 1933 when fellow Hall of Famer Ted Longworth took over for the next 20 years. He finished his career teaching at Riverside Golf and Country Club.
