2014 Section Award Winners
Les Blakley, PGA Head Professional at Spokane Country Club has received the Section’s highest honor being named Golf Professional of the Year for 2014. Blakley was honored for his commitment to his club, service to his fellow PGA Professionals and representation of the ideals of a PGA Professional.
Marcus King, PGA General Manager at Overlake Golf & Country Club, Medina, WA is the recipient of the Bill Strausbaugh Award for his service to his fellow PGA Professionals in governance and education as well has his extensive service to the community.
Jeff Simonds, PGA Director of Golf at Bandon Dunes, Bandon, OR is the recipient of the Horton Smith Award for his commitment to furthering the education of today’s PGA Professionals as well as those working toward membership.
Jason Aichele, PGA Teaching Professional at Meadow Springs Country Club, Richland, Washington has been named Teacher of the Year. Aichele was recognized for his dedication to bringing the game to women and juniors and his innovative four season programs.
Harold Bluestein, PGA Teaching Professional at Tri-Mountain Golf Course, Richfield, WA receives the Player Development Award for his tireless efforts to promote the game and bring golf to new players.
Cameron Milton, PGA Head Professional at Polson Bay Golf Course, Polson, MT has been recognized with the Youth Player Development Award for his tireless and innovative programs to bring the youth in the Flathead Valley to the game of golf.
Chris Runyan, PGA Head Professional at Sundance Golf Course, Spokane, WA is the repeat winner of the Patriot Award. Runyan spearheads a charity golf tournament that raises over $50,000 for charities supporting our veterans and he works with injured local veterans to bring golf back into their life.
Rick Blankenburg, PGA Assistant Professional at Bellingham Golf & Country Club is the Assistant Professional of the Year. Blankenburg was recognized for his commitment to his membership.
Jim Hofmeister, PGA Professional from Liberty Lake, Washington was named the recipient of the Perry Williams Award for his service to the Section’s Rules of Golf Committee. Hofmeister who also serves on the National PGA Rules Committee is a frequent Rules Official for Section Championships.
Matt Brown, PGA Head Professional at Highlands GC, Gearhart, OR is the Merchandiser of the Year for Public facilities. Brown was recognized for his innovate merchandising at his course as well as the use of on-line sales to reach a large customer base.
Mark Sursely, PGA Head Professional at Overlake Golf & Country Club, Medina, WA is the repeat winner of the Merchandiser of the Year for Private Clubs. Sursely unique golf shop, creative displays and adoption of unique products for his membership lead to his selection.
Brett Eaton, PGA Director of Golf at Semiahmoo Golf & Country Club and Loomis Trail Golf Club is the Merchandiser of the Year for Resorts. Eaton was recognized for his creative promotions and combing the management of two facilities.
Darren Black, PGA Head Professional at Rainier Golf & Country Club, Seattle, WA is the 2014 Sterling Cut Glass Player of the Year. Black finished in the top 10 at all five Section majors in 2014 and will advance to the PGA Professional National Championship in June.
Rob Gibbons, PGA Head Professional at Arrowhead Golf Course, Molalla, OR is the Yamaha Senior Player of the Year. Gibbons finished in the top 10 at all four Section Senior majors in 2014.
John Cassidy, Assistant Professional at Alderbrook Golf & Yacht Club, Union, WA is the Assistant Player of the Year. Cassidy is the 2014 Washington Open Champion and finished second in the Pacific Northwest Assistant Professional Championship.
